Nakajima Tetsuo and Guillaume Varès - National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS) in National Institutes of Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology, Inage-ku, Chiba (Japan)

Welcome by LRCM (IPNL biologists) team

The purpose of the Labex WP3 is to elucidate, quantify and predict the cellular events induced by three types of innovative radiotherapy (metal nanoparticles, hadrontherapy (protons and carbon ions), micro-radiotherapy (MRT)). In this context, the Cellular and Molecular Radiobiology Laboratory is interested in the molecular mechanisms involved in response to high or low doses of proton and carbon ion irradiation and in radiosensitization by nanoparticles (NPs) of gadolinium. . The Japanese researchers we wish to invite are specialists in the radiobiology of carbon ions. Professor Tetsuo Nakajima is responsible for a research team at the National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS), which is based on the Hadron Therapy Clinical Center. Dr. Guillaume Vares prepared his thesis at NIRS before obtaining a contract researcher position at the University of Okinawa.

The jointly developed research project integrates with the LabEx PRIMES themes and will evaluate the effects of Gadolinium NPs (GBNs) associated with carbon ion or proton irradiation. The molecular mechanisms involved will be evaluated in chondrosarcoma models cultured in 2D and 3D (spheroids). The carbon ion irradiations will be carried out at NIRS and those by protons on the Van de Graaff 3 MeV line of the IPNL.
