Much like the Yukon gold rush at the end of the 19h century, the development of deep learning and medical imaging tools are promising tremendous benefits to those who turn it into useful medical devices. However, despite numerous deep learning successes, huge needs for modern medical software and a ton of money to pay for it, the road to success is harsher than it appears. In this presentation, we will see what are the necessary milestones to clear a medical device, its regulatory requirements and the impact it has on the day-to-day of a business. We shall thus see that anyone involved in the commercialization of a medical tool is on for a very long journey with numerous pitfalls but also great up swings and, as such, can be seen as a courageous modern gold prospector with an iron temper.
